Stephon Marbury has expressed skepticism about Damian Lillard’s potential for a breakout year under head coach Doc Rivers.
Marbury’s comments came during an interview with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson on Scoop B Radio, where he discussed Lillard’s prospects with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Lillard, who was acquired by the Bucks in a major trade last offseason, saw his scoring average decline significantly from 32.2 points per game in the 2022-23 season to 24.3 points per game in 2023-24.
The Bucks’ coaching situation added to Lillard’s challenges, as they replaced first-year head coach Adrian Griffin with Doc Rivers halfway through the season.
When asked if Lillard could have a standout season under Rivers, Marbury hesitated, casting doubt on the possibility.
“Who’s going to be the coach? Doc Rivers? [long pause]… I don’t know,” Marbury responded.
Marbury’s uncertainty reflects broader questions about how Rivers’ coaching style will impact Lillard’s performance and the Bucks’ overall dynamics.
Rivers, known for his coaching experience and previous successes, faces the challenge of integrating Lillard into the Bucks’ system effectively.
