Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Team Canada have advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games after topping Group A with a perfect 3-0 record.
Canada will now face the host nation, France, who finished 2-1 in Group B.
“As far as Canada, we’ll be ready for whoever we see,” Gilgeous-Alexander said before the quarterfinal opponent was confirmed, via Duane Rankin.
The Oklahoma City Thunder star was also asked about a potential matchup with Team USA, who won Group C by winning all three of their games.
“Come here to play the best talent, best teams in the world. They’re at the top of it so of course it would be fun,” he said.
For Canada to face Team USA, both teams must either advance to the final or lose in the semifinals.
There is recent history between the two teams at the highest level.
Last year, Canada defeated Team USA in the bronze medal game at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
This year, Team USA has brought a new roster filled with superstars and future Hall of Famers.
Earlier in the year, Team USA defeated Canada 86-72 in a friendly game in Las Vegas.
Gilgeous-Alexander’s comments reflect Canada’s readiness and confidence as they look to advance further in the tournament.
