The Denver Nuggets plan to give Jamal Murray an extension after the Paris Olympics. Murray, a key player in the Nuggets’ 2023 NBA championship win, is eligible for an extension but has yet to sign one.
Nuggets general manager Calvin Booth recently discussed Murray’s extension. Booth stated, “Jamal’s been a staple of our program for the last 8 years since he arrived. Obviously, we are very interested in getting something done with him.”
Booth emphasized the importance of Murray focusing on the Olympics first. He said, “The Olympics are a big deal and I think having him focus on that, get through that, when he gets back, I think it will be pretty easy. I don’t think it will be much of a negotiation.”
Booth was also asked about the nature of the extension for Murray. He responded, “We look at Jamal as a star player. When you look at him like that, he will probably end up getting what he deserves.”
Murray, 27, is in the final year of a five-year, $158 million contract. This past season, he averaged 21.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 6.5 assists in 31.5 minutes per game.
Murray’s performance has been crucial for the Nuggets, particularly in their recent championship run. His contributions on the court have solidified his status as a star player.
The extension talks come at a significant time as Murray prepares to compete in the Paris Olympics with Team Canada.
