Former NBA star Baron Davis has candidly expressed his feelings about not being selected for the 2008 Team USA Olympic squad, attributing the snub to a long-standing rift with coach Mike Krzyzewski dating back to his college days at UCLA.
Davis, known for his outspoken nature, did not hold back in his assessment of the situation. “Coach K is a hater. I ain’t tripping,” Davis stated firmly, via HoopsHype.
During a recent conversation with Draymond Green on The Draymond Green Show, Davis elaborated on the possible reasons behind the omission.
“Absolutely. That’s something he wrote about it in his book,” Davis responded when asked if the snub stemmed from his college decision to choose UCLA over Duke.
Reflecting on the selection process, Davis criticized the caliber of guards chosen ahead of him.
“Every sorry [expletive] that was in front of me or that got invited was sorry guards,” Davis remarked passionately. “[Luke] Ridnour got invited, he weak as [expletive]. No knock on him, you know what I mean, but this is my hurt talking.”
Davis’s omission from the Olympic squad appears to have struck a nerve, particularly given his confidence in his own abilities.
“It’s like, are you [expletive] kidding me? Start there. Now go to the top guard and be like, damn, I don’t get a shot? This is ill, homie,” Davis lamented.
Despite the disappointment, Davis maintained a pragmatic outlook on the situation.
“But I wasn’t tripping. I knew what it was. This is coming back to roost from college,” Davis concluded.
