The Atlanta Hawks are exploring trade options for star point guard Trae Young following the departure of Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans.

Despite his talents, interest from Young’s preferred destinations appears lukewarm at present.

ESPN’s Zach Lowe reported that both the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Lakers have shown little enthusiasm for acquiring Young.

“Trae Young is potent enough to keep the Hawks around .500, and they don’t have much incentive to tank so long as the Spurs control their first-round picks through 2027 thanks to the original Murray trade,” Lowe wrote.

San Antonio, in particular, holds considerable leverage with those picks and seems inclined to maintain that advantage rather than reacquiring them through a trade involving Young.

The Lakers, on the other hand, have not actively pursued Young, though their stance could shift if the trade conditions become more favorable.

During the past season, Young averaged impressive statistics of 25.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 10.8 assists per game.

Young, 25, is currently in the third year of a lucrative five-year, $215 million contract, which adds a layer of complexity to any potential trade negotiations.

Both the Lakers and Spurs are reportedly among Young’s preferred landing spots.
