As the Golden State Warriors break records in the NBA, Barcelona set the Euroleague three point record for this season in their 64-93 win over Stelmet Zielona Gora in Poland tonight in Group C of the competition.

Although they set this season’s record, Barcelona fell just short of the overall record which stands at 19 (Which is also the freshly set assist record in the Euroleague) and was set by Montepaschi in 2012. Barcelona racked up 17 of them tonight on 65 percent shooting beyond the arc with no less than seven players contributing to the total.

Of note were young guns Tomas Satoransky and Alexander Vezenkov who shot 100 percent from down town with two and three attempts respectively. As they seemed to be pushing for it in the dying moments and even with the game far out of reach Zielona Gora stepped up their defence around the perimeter and on the interior as well preventing the visitors from setting a new Euroleague record. They also thwarted a three attempt from Samardo Samuels in the last couple of minutes of play, which would have been a less than ideal note for the home side to end the game on.

This result leaves Zielona Gora in a bad situation going into the final few games of the regular season as their record now stands at 1-6 and they’d have to win all three remaining games, two of which are way, in order to nab the fourth spot in the group. Despite this, the Polish fans at tonight’s game were very gracious in defeat delivering a standing ovation as Barcelona dribbled down the game clock.

For the Catalan side this result secures their spot at the top of the group for this week except in the case of a complete blow out win by Kuban Krasnodar tomorrow night as they welcome Zalgiris Kaunas to Russia.
