Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari announced on Saturday it has parted ways with long-time head coach Romeo Sacchetti, who will be replaced on an interim basis by assistant coaches Paolo Citrini and Massimo Maffezzoli. This is the first coaching change for Sassari in more than six years since Sacchetti took over in 2009. He led the club to the Italian top division in his first season at the helm, and their rise together reached a pinnacle last season when club made its Turkish Airlines Euroleague debut and won its only domestic triple crown, including a historic first Italian League title. However, this Euroleague campaign, Sassari is the only winless team after six rounds.

“There are moments to which we never want to arrive, but it was necessary to change something,” Sassari president Stefano Sardara said. “Today our history together with coach Romeo Sacchetti ends. The club decided we have to change direction. We are sorry from a human point of view, because he helped us to grow up and win trophies and become Italian champions. It’s been a long time I have been thinking about a different solution, ever since the days before the last Italian League finals, but the romantic factor prevailed over the rationality. I thought that everything could revive.”
