Malachi Flynn of the Detroit Pistons unexpectedly became the season’s most improbable player to score 50 points in a single game.

This remarkable feat occurred as he came off the bench and achieved this milestone during Wednesday’s game against Atlanta, as reported by James L. Edwards of The Athletic.

For Flynn, who had been averaging 5.8 PPG in 17 games since his acquisition from New York at the trade deadline, this scoring outburst was quite unexpected.

Reflecting on his achievement, Flynn stated, “It’s tougher to put (in perspective) because you want to win. But it definitely feels good. I think in a couple days I’ll be able to put it into perspective.”

He also mentioned that it had been a long time since he had come close to scoring 50 points, recalling a high school game where he reached 49 points before being taken out by his coach, an incident he still holds a grudge against.
