Larry Nance Jr. recently made an investment in soccer, securing a share in the historic English club Leeds United, writes Christian Clark of New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Despite his professional basketball career, Nance’s passion for soccer dates back to his childhood, where he initially excelled before his height propelled him towards basketball.

Visiting Leeds multiple times, Nance’s connection with the city and its people intensified, eventually leading him to seize the opportunity to become part of the ownership group for the esteemed soccer club.

Reflecting on the vibrant fan culture in England, Nance emphasized the fervor and loyalty of soccer fans, noting the stark contrast between American sports fandom and the deep-rooted passion exhibited by soccer enthusiasts in England.

“Got to be honest with you: This is no insult to NBA fans or fans we have in America, but that is real live-and-die-by-your-team fandom,” Nance said.

“That’s another reason why I love it. They don’t just go to the games and talk about it to talk about it online. They live it. They die for it. There are thousands of season-ticket holders on the waiting list. They live and breathe Leeds United. That’s part of why I love it. It’s a real atmosphere.”

Citing the strong emphasis on teamwork and club loyalty within the realm of soccer, Nance highlighted the distinctive culture that places the club above any individual player, a principle he finds profoundly admirable and crucial in the world of sports.

Nance joins a league of NBA players investing in soccer clubs, adding to the growing trend of basketball professionals diversifying their portfolios into the world of soccer.

For Nance, this investment is not just a financial endeavor, but a heartfelt expression of his unwavering support and dedication to the sport.
