Calvin Booth, the Nuggets’ general manager, shared insights into Jamal Murray’s choice to forgo signing an extension this offseason, attributing the decision to Murray’s focus on maximizing his earnings and achieving All-NBA status.

Booth emphasized Murray’s remarkable talent and the team’s high expectations for him, highlighting the need for Murray to meet specific performance benchmarks, including participating in at least 65 games, to secure the desired contract.

While Booth acknowledged the role of external factors, such as voters’ decisions, in Murray’s career trajectory, he expressed confidence in Murray’s determination and the organization’s belief in his potential to reach the coveted supermax level.

“Look, he’s an All-NBA talent,” Booth said about Murray in an interview with Sam Amick of The Athletic. “I think he knows what the benchmark is, what he needs to achieve.

“I mean, obviously, at the end of the day, it’s in the voters’ hands, not his. But whatever is in his control to make that team, we fully expect him to do it this year. We’re moving forward as if he’s going to be a supermax guy because I know when Jamal sets his mind to something it usually happens.”
