In response to concerns about star players being rested during nationally televised games, the NBA’s Competition Committee has introduced stricter guidelines, which have been approved by the league’s Board of Governors. These new measures aim to address the practice of resting multiple stars in the same games.

Under the new rules, the NBA gains the authority to impose more substantial financial fines on teams found in violation of the resting regulations.

The fines could range from $100,000 for a first violation to $250,000 for a second violation, with subsequent violations incurring a significant increase to a staggering $1 million in penalties.

The NBA has also introduced pre-approved designated back-to-back allowances for certain players. Those who are 35 years old on opening night or have career workloads of 34,000 regular-season minutes or 1,000 regular-season and playoff games combined are eligible.

According to ESPN’s NBA Front Office Insider Bobby Marks, this category includes star players like Chris Paul, Mike Conley, Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, DeMar DeRozan, and James Harden.

These measures aim to strike a balance between player health and the league’s commitment to delivering compelling matchups, especially in nationally televised games.
