EuroLeague MVP Sasha Vezenkov made headlines earlier this summer when he signed a lucrative three-year, $20 million deal with the Sacramento Kings.
During his introductory press conference, the 28-year-old Bulgarian power forward shed light on the key factors that led him to choose the Kings as his new home in the NBA.
Vezenkov began by expressing his surprise and gratitude for the strong interest the Kings showed in him. “They showed me that they want me a lot, that they are following me, that they want me here,” he explained. This genuine desire from the organization played a significant role in his decision-making process.
The allure of joining a team with a winning culture was another pivotal factor for Vezenkov. He emphasized, “I like to win. That’s why we play basketball – to enjoy and to win games.”
Vezenkov took note of the Kings’ impressive performance last season, both in terms of their beautiful style of play and, most importantly, their ability to secure victories.
He acknowledged that he didn’t catch every game but saw enough to recognize the team’s potential. “Kings last year was a fantastic team, playing beautiful basketball, but the most important – winning. So it helped me a lot,” Vezenkov said.
