Contrary to the initial reports, a statue of the late great Kobe Bryant is still truly yet to attain significant development.

According to Arash Markazi of The Messenger, several people within the Los Angeles Lakers franchise and AEG have denied the news that a Bryant statue will be erected on Aug. 8, 2024. As such, he further noted that while there have been talks of Gigi being included in the figure, a statue hasn’t been commissioned and a date has not been finalized yet officially.

Both Russ Weakland and Alex Raskin of Dailymail reported earlier this month that the Lakers are already finalizing their plans to further immortalize Bryant via a statue outside of the Crypto.com Arena with his daughter set to be incorporated also. They added that the franchise also eyes the 8/8/24 date as a key nod to the all-time great’s jersey numbers.

For now, it seems that the Lakers fandom has to keep their patience intact despite the fact that the said honoring is indeed long overdue already.

Alongside seven other people, both Kobe and Gigi passed away in a tragic January 2020 helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.

Bryant, who led the Los Angeles Lakers to five league championships, was named as a member of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team last year.
