Joel Embiid, the standout star of the Philadelphia 76ers and reigning MVP of the 2022-23 NBA season, has an important decision to make that could shape the landscape of international basketball.

With United States citizenship attained in September 2022, the USA Basketball is hopeful that the native of Cameroon will choose to represent the country in the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, Embiid also acquired French citizenship in July 2022, making him eligible to play for the host country.

Grant Hill, the USA Basketball Manager Director, confirmed that he has talked to Embiid about his potential involvement in the Olympic games.

“I’ll just answer it with a simple answer, and that’s yes, I’ve talked to him,” Hill said on SiriusXM NBA Radio, via Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. “Look, he has options. He’s a great player. But he’s also somebody that we talked to about next summer. You know, we’ll see. We’ll see how that plays out.”
