A Denver police officer who reportedly got his leg rolled over by a fire truck during the Nuggets’ championship parade recently underwent a below-the-knee amputation, via The Associated Press.

According to Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas, Sgt. Justine Dodge was walking along the passenger side of the truck. As he saw fans approaching, he tried to protect them prior to being struck by the vehicle.

Dodge was already sent home Monday night to recover following the procedure.

The Nuggets parade also had a separate incident wherein a gunman shot two males in a targeted incident.

Denver won its first NBA championship after downing the Miami Heat in five games of their championship bout. They held their celebratory parade three days after the title triumph.
