Ben Simmons had an abysmal 2022-23 season in which he averaged career-low numbers. The former No. 1 pick did not look like his usual self, but the Nets hope to see a different version of the point guard next year.

“I think the hope is that he returns to that (All-Star) level of play,” Brooklyn’s general manager Sean Marks said about Simmons, via Erik Slater. “I mean, if he was 35 years old, I wouldn’t honestly be able to tell you that.

“But I think knowing that he’s mid-20s and he has still hopefully not reached his prime, we’ve gotta make sure he can get back out there and get back to that form. And hopefully we see we see his game even evolve past that. But health is going to be the key to him.”

This summer Simmons, who is a three-time NBA All-Star, is working on getting back in shape. He will miss the FIBA World Cup in order to focus on getting prepared for the 2023-24 season.

Last year Simmons averaged 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists in 26.3 minutes per game for the Nets.
