Fred VanVleet left Toronto and signed with the Rockets after seven years with the Raptors. His now former teammate Scottie Barnes reacted to the departure of the 29-year-old shooting guard.

Barnes was happy that received a significantly better contract than he had with the Raptors. Houston gave VanVleet a 3-year, $128 million deal. His previous contract with Toronto was for 4 years, worth $85 million.

“Fred was a leader on our team, he was our voice. Someone that was able to talk to the media, throughout the team, the organization,” Barnes said about VanVleet, via Vivek Jacob. “I was happy for him, he got a really big contract, he got his bread but we just gotta win basketball games as a team and move on.”

Last season VanVleet averaged 19.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists in 36.7 minutes per game for Toronto.
