Garrett Temple and the New Orleans Pelicans have agreed to extend the deadline for guaranteeing their $5.4, million contract for the 2023-24 season, per ESPN’s Andrew Lopez. The previous deadline was back on July 28.

Noted by Lopez, the Pels are also facing essential deals to consider as tomorrow marks the deadline to either pick up or decline the team options on Herb Jones ($1.8MM), Naji Marshall ($1.9MM), and Willy Hernangomez ($2.6MM) for next season, as well as the extending the qualifying offer for Jaxson Hayes.

Temple, 37, spent the past two seasons in New Orleans. Unlike last 2021-22, he didn’t gain much playing time from coach Willie Green as he appeared in only 25 games and averaged 2.0 points in 6.5 minutes of play.

The veteran guard inked his three-year, $15.5 million deal in a sign-and-trade pact that sent him to the Pelicans via Chicago Bulls.

The 13-year pro has been praised for spreading a solid locker room presence which may entice the Pels to guarantee his contract next year. As such, with the amount of salary, he can be flipped by the club for future trade purposes.
