Ty Lue expressed his displeasure with the culture in which coaches frequently shoulder the blame for the poor performance of teams instead of players.

As he appeared on the latest episode of “The Shop”, the L.A. Clippers mentor echoed his issue about the maltreatment of head coaches while underperforming players are taking a pass from public criticisms.

“How many mistakes are a player making in the game? A coach makes 1 mistake or 2 mistakes, he gets fired? But a player can have 7 turnovers, 4-for-15, 4-for-19 [field goals], I’m saying man, it don’t make sense,” he said.

“You just keep firing good coaches, keep blaming the coaches, like everybody’s gonna make mistakes. I don’t care how you look at it.”

Lue further took a reference to their high-scoring loss with the Sacramento Kings last regular season, wherein the Clippers failed to foul from what he suggested to commit.

“It happened to us this year, against Sacramento… Whatever that crazy score was, we were supposed to foul at the end of the game, but we didn’t foul. We supposed to foul, but then again it’s the coach [who took the blame],” he said.

“We supposed to foul, we didn’t foul. We supposed to stay home, we didn’t stay home. But if you look at it, we go to the press conference, I’ll take the blame.”

This year saw a massive clearing amongst the head coaches around the league. Mike Budenholzer (Milwaukee Bucks), Monty Williams (Phoenix Suns), and Doc Rivers (Philadelphia 76ers) are just some of the notable names that were dismissed by their respective franchises.
