Former NBA champion turned analyst Kendrick Perkins floated a trade idea that would see Ja Morant leave the Grizzlies. Perk made the case why the Heat would be the best destination for the young star who has been involved in controversies over the last year.

“I said this before and I’mma double down on it. I strongly believe that it’s time for Ja to have a change of scenery. I really, really do,” Perkins said on First Take. “And I know the Memphis Grizzlies fans are going to get up in an uproar, and I’m not attacking them, I’m just talking about Ja and his wellbeing and his future.

“And I think it’s time for a change of scenery. And to be honest, we just got through talking about the Miami Heat, I think that’s the culture and that’s the organization that he needs to go to.”

Perkins then explained his point, while understanding that Miami has the night life and other distractions, the team has Pat Riley who has tabs on what’s happening in the city. Plus, Udonis Haslem should remain in the organization. Their presence should help Morant learn and grow as a person.

“So when I look at the culture and when I look at what he could do to that organization and what the organization could do for him, I look at Ja and the change of scenery, I think Miami is the best fit for him. It’s an established culture, he’ll be well protected and he can learn. I think it’s time for him to to get out of Memphis.”
