One of the most iconic football players of all time, certainly of the modern era, Lionel Messi has agreed to join MLS side Inter Miami.

Heat star Jimmy Butler was asked about the move that saw the newly crowned World Cup winner come to the city where he plays himself.

“[It means] a lot of good,” Butler said when asked about the meaning of Messi coming to Miami. “Obviously, he’s one of the greatest players to play that beautiful game. I’m so excited for the city of Miami to be able to have a player of that caliber here. I’m excited for the city of Miami in so many different ways.

“Obviously, us being in the Finals and having the opportunity to do something special now that he’s here. I think all the football/soccer fans from all over the world are going to come here and get an opportunity to watch him compete. I’m glad he’s here.”

Butler was later asked if he knows Messi enough to have reached out to him and welcomed the Argentinean to Miami.

“I wouldn’t say that I know him enough, but I have met him before,” he replied. “Will I reach out? Probably not. I know he probably got a ton of stuff going on anyways. He’s coming over here to do something special for this city. I won’t reach out. I’m happy that he’s here though, I really am. I know that we will link whenever he’s here.”
