Zalgiris Kaunas has secured the services of forward Rolands Smits for an extended period, as the Latvian international signed a contract extension until the end of the 2025-26 season, the team announced.

Smits, who joined Zalgiris from FC Barcelona last summer, played a crucial role in the team’s playoff run in his debut campaign. Averaging 9.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game in the 2022-23 EuroLeague season.

Expressing his contentment with the contract extension, Smits stated, “My family and I are happy to stay in Kaunas for a longer period of time. The players here have all the right conditions, we have an incredible fan base, and I want to keep enjoying it.” Zalgiris head coach Kazys Maksvytis echoed Smits’ sentiment, emphasizing the importance of retaining the talented player.

With a total of 144 EuroLeague games under his belt, Smits has showcased his skills on both ends of the court. After starting his career with Fuenlabrada in Spain, he spent several seasons with Barcelona before making the move to Zalgiris.
