In continuation of their steaming conflict, Dillon Brooks took offense at what he believed was a “low blow” accusation by Draymond Green on the big man’s recent viral podcast release.
Green took a microphone on his own podcast Wednesday to deliver a spicy counterword against the Memphis Grizzlies forward, who initially voiced out his displeasure against the Golden State Warriors in an interview with ESPN.
And following another fiery encounter between the two teams on Thursday, Brooks didn’t mince his words on Green’s platform comments.
“There was some funny stuff,” Brooks said about the podcast (h/t ESPN’s Tim MacMahon). “I’m not a championship player. I feel like my stuff that I said was facts, and we’ll see at the end of the year what they do with him.”
On the podcast, Green erupted and described Brooks as a “clown” for trying to believe in himself as a crucial component of a dynasty. He also went on to mock the Grizzlies for “depending” on the veteran as they aim to win a championship.
“If you ever wondered why the Memphis Grizzlies is not ready to compete for a championship, look no further than this idiot right here. They actually are depending on this guy to help them win a championship, and he says his game is cool. Quite frankly, that just shows how little you know about basketball. That’s where it gets really interesting.
“Your level of understanding the game of basketball is at a fan level. And you’re running around talking about a dynasty? The dynasty starts after you, not with you. That’s just a fact. I know dynasty-like players. They aren’t clowns. That doesn’t work when building a dynasty.”
As such, these spicy words are being heavily viewed by Brooks as an attempt by Green to put him against his teammates. And amid this notion, he is not fazed by the star big man’s podcast statements as he believes he is a much better and impactful player.
Brooks further went on to note that he is not “getting in physical altercations” with his teammates – a direct tirade in reference to Green’s notable offseason controversy of sucker-punching Jordan Poole.
“No, because I know I’m a better player than him,” Brooks said when asked if he’s bothered by Green’s podcast display. “I can do the same stuff that he does. That’s easy. That’s just showing up to work. Me, I try to score. I try to figure out plays. I try to call out plays for my team. Just the fact that he was trying to pin my teammates against me, that was a low blow. So that’s what type of player he is.
“These are my guys. We grew it all together. I ain’t out there getting in physical altercations with my teammates. I sit there and talk to them, try to not break them down, but build them up.”
Despite missing Ja Morant, Steven Adams, and Brandon Clarke, the Grizzlies still managed to wallop the Warriors at home in a dominant fashion, 131-110. Both Brooks and Green had a chippy moment in the middle of the second frame, as the forward tried to taunt the big man after a defense-offense play.
Both contending teams will meet next Saturday for the final match of their 2022-23 regular season series. As such, it is safe to assume that the feud between Brooks and Green will continue to extend with no such end in sight given their feisty personalities.
