Dallas Mavericks center Christian Wood has sustained a fractured left thumb. Per the team’s release, he’ll be re-evaluated in one week.

His impending absence can only add a major blow for the Mavs’ big man slate and needed offensive support behind superstar Luka Doncic.

Wood appeared to injure his thumb in Dallas’ 130-122 defeat against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday. Still, he went on to finish the match, tallying 22 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two blocks on the losing effort.

In his first year in the Mavericks, Wood gradually earned the trust of head coach Jason Kidd after starting the season in a sixth-man role. He is averaging 18.4 points and 8.4 rebounds while shooting over 53 percent from the field.

With the franchise’s prized acquisition from last offseason, Wood is an expiring asset and has been creating such noise around the league regarding his looming future with the Mavericks.
