In the eyes of Steve Kerr, Stephen Curry is a well-deserved player that is very much capable of being compared to the great Michael Jordan.
And on Monday, he didn’t hide this interesting notion from his point of view.
“He’s the modern MJ,” Kerr told reporters after the Golden State Warriors outlasted the Washington Wizards. “Playing with the Bulls, half the crowd’s got red 23 jerseys on. Now, half the crowd’s got blue and yellow 30 jerseys. Steph transcends the game. He elicits an emotion from people. I think because he’s so awe-inspiring in his play, no matter where we go there are people who are cheering for him and can’t wait to see him perform.”
In hindsight, no other qualified person can deliver this claim outside of Kerr.
Kerr managed to share the court with Jordan during the latter’s second legendary tenure with the Chicago Bulls. Casting his ultra competitiveness and unblemished basketball identity, the retired icon powered the franchise on its second three-peat from 1996 to 1998, which totaled six NBA championships in the 90s decade alone.
Now holding the drawing board, Kerr has been enchanted now by Curry on an everyday basis. The greatest shooter in history has established himself as the heart of the Golden State Warriors dynasty – winning four league titles in an eight-year span.
Upon his grace and dominance, Jordan became a larger-than-life figure who pulled everyone’s attention and brought the game of basketball to international sports relevance. The same can be noted in Curry, who revolutionized the game on his own with that out-of-this-world shooting ability.
In terms of influence and charisma, Curry is truly comparable with Jordan. But with his career still flowing, it might be safe to say that the reigning Finals MVP still got those solid chances to ultimately elevate his golden status.
