Zion Williamson set a new career-high by dropping 43 points in the win against the Timberwolves (119-118).
The former number one draft pick played a crucial role in the final minutes of the game as he carried New Orleans to the fourth straight win.
“I just want to win. I can’t just sit here and always say I want to win. I’ve got to show it,” the 22-year-old forward said after the game. “It was one of those things where coach and my teammates are just like ‘Hey, go to work’ and they trusted what I would do with the basketball. So I want to thank them for that.”
Williamson also talked about how important for him is to be a winner. “I watch a lot of old school players and I like to break, try to figure out their mindsets,” he said. “All their mindsets was the same.
“People remember winners, so whenever that time comes for me to be done in basketball, I want people to say that he was a winner. CJ looked at me and said ‘You want to be great. This is time to step up’ and that was all the motivation I needed.”
This season Williamson is averaging 25.8 points, 7 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 33.4 minutes per game.
