Despite a poor start of the season and dim hopes of making the playoffs, the Lakers (2-8) are reportedly unwilling to trade their 2027 and 2029 first round picks – their only first round picks this decade.

According to an NBA insider Shams Charania, it seems that the team is prepared to go ahead with the roster that is currently available and to only make small changes that don’t including ‘mortgaging’ their future.

“The organization will be prudent with their two first round picks available that they have for the remainder of the decade in 2027 and 2029,” Charania said on FanDuel TV. “I don’t believe the Lakers are in a position right now to mortgage their future with those two available picks.

“Realizing that this team is probably not going to be a championship contender. Might not even be a shoe-in for the playoffs the way the season is going. They’re probably looking at marginal changes around edges at best.”
