New York Knicks big man Obi Toppin and first-year assistant coach Rick Brunson got into a “heated argument” during Friday’s 106-104 dub against the Philadelphia 76ers, via Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

The two had to be separated after their altercation.

“My understanding is they smoothed it over after game and they have a strong enough relationship after Rick trained Obi during predraft process,” Bondy noted. “Obi also played really well after argument.”

Toppin ultimately played well on the Knicks’ Friday win, finishing with 17 points and three rebounds in over 20 minutes of play. He also managed to drain three-for-six threes throughout the evening.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau has no problem with what happened between Toppin and Brunson.

Toppin, who was chosen by the Knicks for the eight pick of the 2020 Draft, is currently having a productive season in his third year, averaging 10.8 points and 3.4 rebounds in eight games off the bench while shooting 53.1 percent from the field.

Brunson was tapped by the Knicks last offseason to become an assistant for Thibodeau. He was rumored to be a part of the recruitment made by the franchise to sign Jalen Brunson, his son, in last free agency.
