Fenerbahce coach Zeljko Obradovic will not get a chance to add a ninth Euroleague title to his extraordinary resume, but he hopes that Real Madrid claim a ninth crown.

Real, who ousted Obradovic’s Fenerbahce side on Friday, have already won more Euroleague titles than any other side, but have not won the event since 1995.

And when Madrid last won the Euroleague twenty years ago, Obradovic was at the helm, so when the latest chapter of the Real, Olympiacos rivalry continues in the championship game on Sunday night, the winningest coach in the competition will follow his heart.

“Real Madrid played a huge game, amazing, and we weren’t able to counteract them,” he said.

“I was their coach many years ago and I hope Real Madrid will win the Euroleague,”

The fact that Obradovic also won five Euroleague titles with Olympiacos’ bitter adversaries Panathinaikos only solidifies the Serbian’s ties.

In addition to the eight Euroleague crowns that Obradovic has won, which is more than any other Euroleague coach, he has appeared in 14 Final Fours, also more than any other playcaller.
