After plenty of concerns regarding Klay Thompson’s availability, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr dropped an encouraging update for the star shooting guard’s status for the 2022-23 opening night.

Per Kerr, he believes that Thompson will be good to go for the season opener. Though his workouts remain “positive,” Kerr reiterated that he is hoping that the future hall of famer will be activated for the final preseason match of the Dubs against the Denver Nuggets next Friday.

“I think he’ll be ready opening night,” Kerr told reporters on Sunday, via Kerith Burke of NBC Sports.

For precautionary and safety purposes, Kerr and the Warriors are shelving Thompson from active basketball for now. The star shooter already took a seat in the team’s three preseason games so far, and it remains yet to be seen if he’ll become available in the preseason exit.

The Warriors have every reason to be wary and cautious about Thompson, due to the fact that he was sidelined for two-straight seasons nursing an ACL and Achilles surgery.

Following the hoisting of their fourth championship banner in eight years, Golden State will face the Los Angeles Lakers for a highly anticipated California showdown in the season tip-off on Oct. 18.
