This year’s EuroBasket was arguably most star-studded tournament ever with Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic being the biggest stars.

Greece, led by Giannis, was projected as one of the top favorites to win it all. However, the team’s run ended in quarter-finals against the hosts Germany.

Until then there was a huge interest in Greece, Antetokounmpo revealed. According to him 6-7 million people watched their national team in a country with a population of 10.5 million.

“Obviously it was a great experience representing my country,” the two-time NBA MVP said. “I had fun. It was the first time that I saw people were engaged. People had hope. Basketball came back to Greece.

“Even though we came one game short from the medals, but I felt like people had hope. That was the most amazing thing. People were following us on the road everywhere we went and they were cheering for us, cheering for the flag.

“Representing your national team is heavy, it’s not easy because it’s a flag, you represent the whole country. In the game that we played, I think they told me like 6 or 7 million people were watching the game and in Greece it’s like 10.5 million people.”

The Greek Freak averaged 29.3 points, 8.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 28.3 minutes over 6 games in EuroBasket.
