Joe Mazulla could find himself calling the shots temporarily for the Boston Celtics.

Given that Will Hardy has left for Beantown to grab the head coaching opportunity offered by the Utah Jazz, Mazulla is likely to become the Cs’ interim coach for the early parts of next season in light of Ime Udoka’s upcoming suspension (per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski).

Mazulla, 34, has been an assistant coach for the majority of his coaching career serving for the Glenville State Pioneers, Fairmont State Fighting Falcons and G League’s Maine Celtics.

He was hired by the franchise as an assistant last 2019. Upon the helm takeover by Udoka on the previous year, he was still retained to provide needed support on the sidelines.

Udoka is set to face a potential disciplinary action and suspension after investigations found out that he had an improper intimate affair with a female staffer of the ball club (as revealed by The Athletic’s Shams Charania). Per Wojnarowski, the final verdict about Udoka’s case could be announced by Thursday.
