The Boston Celtics have tapped Luka Samanic to a non guaranteed, training camp deal (h/t CLNS’ Bobby Manning).
Samanic, the nineteenth overall pick of the 2019 Draft, played for the Westchester Knicks last season on a two-way contract with the New York Knicks. He managed to play for the San Antonio Spurs from 2019 to 2021, with an average of 3.8 points and 2.2 boards in his career.
Still at 22 years of age, Samanic could be an ideal candidate to be signed by the Cs heading to the season as an additional big man to patch up Rob Williams III’s absence. Jay King of the The Athletic previously reported that the ball club is leaning to add a young center as a replacement for recently waived Bruno Caboclo, while dismissing the idea of adding a notable free-agent veteran big available in the market.
