Though he remains unsigned as a free-agent, Dennis Schroeder has enticed a particular Western Conference heavyweight for a potential deal.

Sources told league insider Marc Stein that the Dallas Mavericks might consider Schroeder for a contract signing. The club is said to have “considered the addition of one more ball-handling veteran to its roster before the season starts.”

Other than Schroeder, fellow guards like Eric Bledsoe, Facundo Campazzo, Elfrid Payton and Dennis Smith Jr. were noted in the option list of the Mavs.

Stein added that Dallas key executives Nico Harrison and Michael Finley were in attendance to observe Schroeder in leading Germany to the 2022 EuroBasket, which may give a clue that considerations for him are taking shape.

The Mavericks have a noticeable hole in their backcourt spot that they need to address due to Jalen Brunson’s departure for a much bigger opportunity in the New York Knicks. By possibly adding Schroeder, it lessens the ball handling load that Luka Doncic and Spencer Dinwiddie will carry next season.

Schroeder split his 2021-2022 season with the Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets, averaging 13.5 points, 4.6 dimes, 3.3 boards in 43.1 percent shooting collectively.

Seeking a much bigger chance to shine and to regain his market value, taking a gamble to the Mavs is a good option for the veteran point man.
