Rudy Gobert reckons former teammate Donovan Mitchell has a bright future ahead of him following the guard getting traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Gobert and Mitchell spent five years playing together in Utah but their relationship soured, somewhat, in 2020 after the French center’s COVID-related antics.

Gobert was first to leave the Jazz, having gotten traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves earlier in the offseason. The Cavs officially announced their acquisition of Mitchell on Saturday.

“I think he has a bright future,” Gobert told Antonis Stroggylakis of Eurohoops.net. “He’s one of the best young players in his position. He’s going to keep getting better. I think it’s a great opportunity for him to just get to a new system, a new team and be able to show what he can do.”

The Cavaliers now look to be a major threat in the Eastern Conference after adding one of the NBA’s best scoring guards to their roster.
