Shareef O’Neal is following the footsteps of his father who is an NBA legend. The eldest son of Shaquille O’Neal worked out for the Lakers, a team with which his father won three rings.

After the workout the former LSU Tiger admitted that he was star struck when he entered the Lakers facility and put on the team’s gear.

“I walked in today I was kind of star struck,” the 22-year-old forward/center said. “I was really born into this team. My dad and Kobe won championships when I was born. Now it’s me putting on the Lakers gear. It’s crazy. I was speechless kind of.

“I’ve never been in this facility before, I’ve been in the old one. Just looking down and seeing I had a Lakers number six on, hopefully LeBron don’t get mad I got his practice jersey on.

“It’s amazing to be here, such a blessing from a team I grew up watching. My dad won championship with this team. Now that I have on the Laker stuff it’s just amazing, it’s a dream come true.

“I haven’t been back to L.A. in a long time. Told my family how the Lakers workout and they’re all excited, grandma really excited. Because they never really thought I’ll be in this position. We all just thought my dad was going to be in the Lakers gear, but now it’s me getting a chance to put on these colors. So, it’s awesome.”

Based on various mock drafts, Shareef is not expected to be drafted and will have to look for an NBA contract by working out for teams.
