The roster that the Lakers assembled for this season gets a fair share or criticism. But there are some positive surprises too. Malik Monk who was signed as a free agent is one of them.

After starting just once in four years for the Hornets, he earned a starting spot for the Lakers. The 24-year-old shooting has started 24 times so far this season.

Lakers general manager and vice president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka is happy with the addition of Monk and would like to keep him in Los Angeles.

Via Dave McMenamin of ESPN:

“The partnership has been a win from both sides,” Pelinka says. “Both for the Lakers, in terms of the productivity he’s had for us and then I think on his side, just showing people what he can do in big moments in big games. … He’s a guy that we would see as hopefully a part of our future.”

This season Monk is averaging 12.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 27.6 minutes per game for the Lakers.
