Doc Rivers reacts to Kings firing Luke Walton, after Sixers’ win in Sacramento

Philadelphia 76ers were able to win in Sacramento, despite being five starters down entering the game. Sixers’ head coach Doc Rivers talked about the Kings’ decision to fire Luke Walton.

The Kings fired coach Luke Walton on Sunday just 17 games into his third season with the franchise. Sacramento had gotten off to a 6-11 start and things were not looking good.

The Kings have not made the playoffs since 2006. Walton registered a 68-93 record during his stint in Sacramento. The Kings named assistant coach Alvin Gentry as an interim head coach.

“I hate when anybody loses their job, number one, in Luke,” said Rivers. “I thought he had a tough job, honestly, and so I was never happy with that,” Doc Rivers said after the 76ers’ victory.

“Happy for Alvin. He’s a terrific coach. He really is. He was on my staff in LA for a year and probably shouldn’t have let him go. We allowed Golden State to steal him from us. We should have kept him if we could have.”

The Sixers improved to 10-8 after their victory in Sacramento. The Philadelphia team will conclude a six-game road trip out in the West vs. the league-leading Golden State Warriors on Thursday.
