Former NBA coach and ex-EA7 Milano player Mike D’Antoni is to have his jersey retired.

D’Antoni’s number 8 jersey will be confined to the rafters of the Mediolanum Forum on March 13, when Milano host Unicaja Malaga in a Euroleague Top 16 encounter.

Although born in West Virginia, D’Antoni owns dual American-Italian citizenship due to his playing days in Italy.

The veteran 63-year-old coach, who has roamed the sidelines of the Denver Nuggets, Portland Trailblazers, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers, spent 13 years with Milano from 1977 to his retirement in 1990.

He then spent a further four years as head coach of Milano, winning two Serie A titles and leading them to the 2002 Euroleague Final Four.

Since leaving for the NBA, D’Antoni has scooped the 2005 NBA Coach of the Year award and coached the Western Conference in the 2007 All-Star Game.
