Boston Celtics announced that Marcus Smart will not be eligible to play in the preseason game tonight vs. the Miami Heat. The Cs’ said Smart breached team rule, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Smart discussed the situation with the team and resolved the issue, as the veteran guard followed the team in Miami, but he will not participate in the game.

Later, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Smart missed the team’s flight to Orlando, and that’s the reason Boston suspended its starting point-guard.

After the departure of Kemba Walker, Smart will now share the Celtics’ starting backcourt spot with newly acquired Dennis Schroder.

Smart is coming off a career-best season with Boston, averaging 13.1 points and 5.7 assists per contest in 56 appearances.
