As the new NBA season approaches, the questions around Damian Lillard potentially demanding out of Portland remain. According to Jason Quick of The Athletic, the Blazers’ superstar remains committed to the Blazers for now.

Lillard will wait and see how the Blazers will perform early in the season, while Lillard could wait to end the season before making any decision for the future.

…Lillard — for now — has backed off quite a bit when it comes to his desire to be elsewhere. As our esteemed Blazers beat writer, Jason Quick, wrote recently, Lillard is focused on “going out on his shield” and trying yet again to take the Blazers to that elusive next level.

His stance could certainly change if the Blazers get off to a bad start, but sources say Lillard wants to see how this early season goes while giving first-year coach Chauncey Billups a genuine shot at success along the way.

Billups is the major change for the Blazers ahead of the new season, as the former NBA champion replaced Terry Stotts as the head coach of the team.

At the same time, Portland added another versatile defensive forward by adding Larry Nance Jr. to the mix, after agreeing to a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Those moves could not be enough for the Blazers to win the title. However, they can definitely show improvement, if CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic remain healthy for the whole season.

In any case, Lillard has made it known that he’s willing to wait and see for at least another year. Hopefully, the franchise will do enough to help him carry the team to an NBA title.
