Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka has many decisions to make before the start of the 2021-22 season campaign. The rookie head coach also needs to choose the team’s captain.

Udoka admitted he is willing to name multiple players as captains for the new season. Speaking with the press during the team’s usual media availability session, Udoka revealed that naming more than one captain was on the table.

“We’ve talked about it,” he explained. “I’ve talked about it with the staff. You’ve got guys who have been here, the core guys, with Marcus (Smart), Jaylen (Brown), Jayson (Tatum), they’ve been here forever,” Udoka said.

“But,” he continued, “you’ve got a guy like Al (Horford) who is coming back and is a veteran presence, a veteran voice that they all respect and listen to.”

Smart has been the heart and soul of the Cs the last few seasons, while Tatum and Brown are two superstars, who are carrying the team, especially on the offensive end.

On the other side, Al Horford could be an option for the Celtics’ captaincy, as he was part of the franchise for many years, before joining Boston again this offseason.

The preseason schedule kicks off soon, starting at Boston’s home arena of TD Garden on Monday, Oct. 3 vs. the Orlando Magic.
