FC Barcelona is still waiting for Pau Gasol’s decision regarding his career. Gasol spent the last season with the Catalans, and he participated in the Tokyo Olympics with the Spanish national team.
With the Spanish Liga Endesa tipping off September 11, Barcelona head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius talked about his plans, which currently don’t include the veteran big.
“I’m focused on working with what I have and I am not thinking of Pau Gasol right now. If it [his decision] appears later, we will have to assess it,” said Jasikevicius in a recent interview on Rac1.
This offseason, Barcelona signed Nicolas Laprovittola, Rokas Jokubaitis, Nigel Hayes and Sertac Sanli, after reaching the EuroLeague Finals last season.
They also kept Pierre Oriola, Alex Abrines, Cory Higgins, Kyle Kuric, Nikola Mirotic, Nick Calathes, Brandon Davies, Sergi Martinez and Roland Smits.
Jasikevicius is hoping that the younger members of the team will step up this season, after earning experience at the highest level this past year.
“I have always believed in the squad. We have a group of youngsters who are not ready yet but in a couple of years, they will be.
They are youngsters who have a future and with whom we will have to take a little risk. Then it will depend on them”, he stated.
