Team USA opened the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with a loss to France. The reigning gold medalists struggled to find their rhythm in offense, especially in the second half. Head coach Gregg Popovich said postgame the loss was not a surprise.
Following the Americans’ loss to France, a report appeared suggesting that some of the players are frustrated with Team USA playing ‘San Antonio offense.’
Sports analyst Chris Broussard thinks that Pop, despite being one of the greatest NBA coaches in history, is one of the worst international coaches based on his record with Team USA since taking over the position from Mike Krzyzewski.
“I’ve always said Gregg Popovich is one of the greatest NBA coaches in history but he’s also one of the worst international coaches. … I’m not going to write Team USA off completely. But I might be surprised if they win the gold, more so than if they lose it,” Broussard said on First Things First as pointed at the number of losses that the USA suffered under Popovich.
