Los Angeles Lakers are hoping to build back a contending team this offseason, and while the draft is not the way to go in this case, the LA franchise is exploring ways to add more assets.

According to Jonathan Givony of ESPN, the Lakers are considering trading down to pick up another asset, and that’s the reason they have looked at a wide range of prospects prior to the draft.

The Lakers could use extra draft capital after surrendering most of their future picks in the Anthony Davis trade. This draft capital can also be used in a potential trade.

If the Lakers decide to keep the 22nd overall pick of the 2021 NBA Draft, they are expected to choose an NBA-ready player, who can become a potential rotational piece throughout the next season.

However, trading down could potentially give the Lakers more options in both free agency and on the trade market. NBA Draft is set to take place on July 29.
