Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic opened up about his decision to wear No.77 in his NBA career.

Doncic, a 2018 EuroLeague champion with Real Madrid and one of the best players in the NBA at the moment, revealed that Vassilis Spanoulis was the reason he chose his number.

“Obviously, Felipe Reyes was my teammate, and he taught me well. He was the veteran over there, and he won almost everything. He was a really big time for my career.

Spanoulis was my idol since I was little. I was watching him. It was kind of sad seeing him retiring. That’s why I wear No 7. I mean, I couldn’t wear No 7, cause it was already taken, so I took 77. He was really, really big time for me,” Doncic said, via Eurohoops.net.

For his part, Spanoulis, an Olympiacos and EuroLeague legend, decided to retire from basketball a few days ago.
