Memphis Grizzlies caused an upset in Game 1 of the series vs. the Utah Jazz as they edged the top-seeded Jazz with a 112-109 victory.

After the game, Memphis’ superstar Ja Morant made several interesting remarks revealing how he motivates himself before and during the games.

“My message to myself is always, ‘If you don’t believe in yourself, who will?'” Morant said, per ESPN’s Nick Friedell. “I take that on the floor. I always take two quotes that I got tatted on me that my mom and dad always told me that I’m trained to go, meaning that I work for this moment and I’m prepared for it.

[And] ‘Beneath no one,’ my mom always told me that. So, as long as I’m going out there, I have all the confidence in myself. I’m not afraid of nobody. Anybody I play against tie their shoes the same way I do before the game. And I just go out there and play confident.”

Morant went off on Sunday night matchup recording 26 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists. The sophomore guard was on attack mode vs. Utah helping the Memphis secure a victory in a hostile environment against the team with the best regular season record.

Obviously, Memphis will not go down easy as they’re preparing to face the Jazz again on Wednesday. Utah will have to amp up their game to fulfill their postseason aspirations.
