Detroit Pistons don’t seem to be able to flip Blake Griffin for future assets, and they’re expected to work on a buyout with the veteran forward, per The Athletic’s James Edwards III and Shams Charania.

Griffin is averaging 12.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists this season, but hasn’t played since February. 12. The Pistons would like to offload Griffin’s deal.

He is on the books for $36.6 million this season and carries a player option worth $39 million for the 2021-22 campaign. Injuries took a toll on the high-flying forward, who took a huge step back after his bounce-back 2018-19 season.

Griffin could definitely help a contender as a role player coming off the bench in a more sensible contract money-wise. According to Stephen A.Smith, the Clippers could be a potential suitor under the right circumstances.
