LeBron James is a basketball purist and that’s evident when he talks about the game. In an interview before his Los Angeles Lakers’ Christmas Day matchup with the Dallas Mavericks, James shared what he admires most in other players.

“I think it’s the game in between the game. … Guys that can make plays happen before you can read, before a lot of players on the floor can see them,” James said to the LA Times.

“It’s not about the actual scoring the ball. It’s about making passes and reads throughout the game where even their particular teammate didn’t see that it was coming to them or the defender didn’t see it. Those are the plays that get me in the ‘wow’ moment or the ‘damn’ moment.”

James is a multilayered player since the start of his career and one of the best we have ever seen in that regard. Despite being a great athlete, passing and outside scoring became a more plausible playing style the last five seasons.

The 2019-2020 assist leader is coming off a championship run with the Los Angeles Lakers. With him having just 74 days of rest after winning his fourth NBA title, LeBron will certainly try to take it easy and preserve his energy for playoff basketball this season.
