Gordon Hayward opted out of his deal with the Boston Celtics and he will become a free agent starting on Friday.

In particular, the veteran forward declined a player option worth $34.2M for the 2020/21 season and he will be among the high-ceiling free agents of the 2020 class.

According to Mark Murphy of Boston Herald, this does not mean Hayward will definitely sign with another team, despite the interest from the Knicks and the Hawks.

Moreover, the Butler alumni might remain with his current team under a restructured deal, as Murphy reports.

Hayward spent the past three years with Boston. He averaged 17.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.7 assists in 52 games with the Celtics in the shortened 2019/2020 campaign.
